Celebrating Valley Volunteers!

On April 14th, around 90 representatives from over 30 nonprofit groups, congregated at Bosun Hall in New Denver for the 2024 edition of "Get Your Just Desserts.”

Organized by the Slocan Valley Community Legacy Society (SVCLS), the event aimed to honour the dedicated volunteers who contribute to making the Slocan Valley a vibrant and caring community. This gathering coincided with Volunteer Week in Canada, offering a special opportunity to express gratitude to those individuals who undertake various tasks, from grant writing to snow shoveling, to sustain the smooth operation of organizations and the community at large.

Generously funded by the Columbia Basin Trust (CBT) and RDCK Area H, the event treated volunteers to an array of delectable sweets and savouries prepared and served by caterer Sandy Smith and a team of eager helpers. The celebration featured numerous door prizes provided by local businesses and supporters. It was a heartening moment to come together and formally recognize the invaluable contributions of our community volunteers. Representatives from CBT, the Villages of New Denver and Slocan, along with a letter from MP Richard Cannings and well-wishes from Area H director Walter Popoff, added to the spirit of appreciation.

The SVCLS, responsible for managing the Slocan Valley Legacy Fund, takes pride in fostering community support. Additionally, the society offers grants to local community groups, with the announcement of this year's recipients slated for late May.
