On Sunday, April 23rd, approximately 100 people gathered at the Vallican Whole Community Centre for the 2023 “Get Your Just Desserts” celebration.
This event was hosted by the Slocan Valley Community Legacy Society (SVCLS) and it was all about recognizing the many, many volunteers who make the Slocan Valley the vibrant, safe, busy and caring community that it is.
The party took place as part of Volunteer Week in Canada, a chance to show appreciation to all those people who write grants, stack chairs, attend meetings, shovel snow, put up posters, bake cookies and do so much more to keep their organizations running smoothly. There were representatives from over 30 different non-profit groups in attendance!
The event was funded through generous grants from the Columbia Basin Trust and RDCK Area H. Volunteers enjoyed delicious sweets and savouries prepared and served by “Catering by Christine” from the Village of Slocan, and dozens of door prizes were awarded. After a three year hiatus due to COVID 19, it was wonderful to get together once again to acknowledge our community’s great volunteers. The hard part was convincing those hard-working folks that they didn’t have to help with the clean-up!
