Dwayne Lau

Director

Dwayne has been living in Crescent Valley since 2011 when he moved from the west coast with his fiancé at the time. Dwayne's fiancé Fiona grew up in a smaller, ski mountain town and both of them wanted to leave the urban environment for a more relaxed rural lifestyle. Once they found their forever home they knew there was no turning back, and proceeded to have a back yard wedding in 2012. Moving from the city where you can touch your neighbor's house but don't get to know people, to not having any close neighbors but wanting to be part of the community, Dwayne joined the Crescent Valley Fire Department in 2017 and has service his local community ever since. In four years Dwayne achieved Full Service (NFPA 1001) level certification, maintains a medical First Responder license and also has Swift Water technician level certification. When asked by an existing board member if he would be interested and available to join the Slocan Valley Legacy Fund board, there was little hesitation as Dwayne hoped his corporate experience with another funder in the region, and desire to support his community would be a great fit.
