IN HONOUR

Here’s an example of how one of our donors chose to honour something special to them:

Smoke in the Valley

In Honour of GOAT MOUNTAIN SCHOOL

Selena Hudson, collage artist, lives and works in California but grew up in the Slocan Valley. In the summer of 2021 she returned to visit New Denver where she hosted a show of her work at The Hidden Garden Gallery from August 3 – 8. Selena has generously donated the proceeds from the sales of her work at that show to the Slocan Valley Legacy Fund. She chose to make her donation in honour of Goat Mountain School, a parent-run school she attended as a child.

Evelyn Goodell, current SVCLS board member and former teacher, remembers teaching Selena as a pre-schooler, and is thrilled with her contribution, and those of other former Goat Mountain students.  “The thoughtfulness and care for our valley and the support of the Legacy Fund by these young (well, they are now in the 50’s!) people makes me very happy”.

Goat Mountain School was started in 1972 by a group of parents and ran until 1978. (This is the time frame Selena attended.) The school enjoyed a second run from 1994 to 2001.  During both incarnations, the school was a publicly funded independent parent co-operative school and enjoyed community involvement and support.  Parents and students share very fond memories of a creative, important, fun and meaningful project.

The SVLF is very grateful for this thoughtful support of our work.
